Snowflake Quilt

This is my most recent quilt:
I made it for my sister Betsy for Christmas this year. I wanted to make a snowflake theme quilt for her but couldn't find any patterns like what I had in mind. So I got out some graph paper and came up with my own. I wanted 6 sided snowflakes so I knew I'd use a hexagon pattern and like in nature I also wanted each one to be unique. I only used three prints cause I hoped it would emphasize the design (white-ice, blue-background, stripes-between) and also as I'm new to this I don't have piles and piles of fabric on hand yet to get a good mixture. I tried to use the stripes as part of the design too, so I had to think hard about it before I cut them. But it was exciting when the stripes would line up.
I had to do some piecing on the back make it big enough to match the front. And did these little triangles to use up some left over scraps. This is the first hand tied quilt I've done. I'm not great at quilting yet, but I may put more effort into learning how to machine quilt now that I've tried hand tying and wasn't thrilled about it.
